SCOTT SAKAKIHARA LAUNCHES FIRST AD IN CAMPAIGN FOR SENATE DISTRICT 10
30-Second Spot, “Personal,” Shares Scott’s Family History and His Commitment to Fighting Back Against Trump
(Union City, CA) – Today, Democratic candidate for California State Senate District 10 Scott Sakakihara announced the first ad of his campaign, a 30-second spot entitled “Personal.” The ad is a stark reminder that Japanese American families like Scott’s were forced to survive illegal detention and the types of abuse currently being committed by ICE and Donald Trump.
Backed by an initial six-figure media investment, the ad is being deployed across cable, digital, and streaming platforms and is targeted to registered voters across the district, signaling an aggressive early push to define the race and reach voters at scale.
In the ad, Scott shows history repeating itself and recalls how all four of his grandparents were sent to Japanese American internment camps during World War II, and shares how this shapes his commitment to fighting back against President Donald Trump and ICE’s attacks on immigrant families, healthcare, and working people.
The ad reads: “They say history repeats itself. I’m Councilmember Scott Sakakihara. My grandparents were sent to Japanese American internment camps during World War 2. It was wrong then, and it’s wrong now. Trump is tearing families apart, ripping away healthcare, and tanking our economy. I’m running for State Senate to stop ICE, protect healthcare, and deliver gas and groceries you can afford. We can’t wait to fight back. Vote by June 2nd.”
The ad is the opening piece and initial investment of a substantial paid communications program that will reach voters across the district and puts the campaign on track to meet the voluntary expenditure limit. The program includes TV, direct mail, and digital platforms.
Together, the ad and media plan reflect a campaign built to communicate effectively across a large and diverse district, while grounding Scott’s message in his unique story: his local roots, his family’s experience with internment, his record of public service, and his commitment to making California a firewall against Trump’s attacks on vulnerable communities.
“Californians are counting on us to build a state with real opportunity for everyone–where nobody is left behind,” said Scott Sakakihara. “Our campaign is all in to win and to make this vision a reality.”
